HOPE-THRU-HORSES INC.
My first Harvest Hosts stay!
Hope-Thru-Horses in Parkton, NC and it couldn’t have been more perfect for me. Waking up, swinging my doors open to the animals and the sun making its way out over the fields filled my cup right up.
Not only was this my ideal Harvest Host venue as a lifelong animal freak, but a major awakening to the incredible people dedicating their lives to helping others overcome trauma with the human-animal bond.
Got a little distracted on the way in and I got very stuck. I, at the very least, was where I needed to be though - which was more than I could say for the majority of my journey up to that point.
While I waited for a tow the founder of the organization came out to greet me and offer me a tow herself with her tractor. Absolute inspiration of a woman, I tell you.
As we were talking I learned about Heather’s lifelong dedication to therapy and horses and how she has built Hope-Thru-Horses INC for individuals overcoming traumatic experiences. I learned that most of the activity on the farm was actually active therapy sessions.
I thanked her for all she does and before she got back to work, she let me know Eleanor and I were welcome to roam anywhere we’d like on the farm with the animals while respecting the ongoing therapy sessions.
Once we were towed out of the mud which I absolutely and shockingly never let happen again, we posted up by the hog pen.
The next morning was one of my favorites on my journey. Eleanor and I made our tea, and set out to the fields. The horses were politely interested in us and Eleanor could not for the life of her figure out why the hell the dogs here were so damn big.
There are some places you experience that you know you will see again someday. This was one of those places for me.
