The Hunt for the Perfect Treky

Since a van build was a non-option I kept finding myself shining to the 190 Roadtrek Poplar’s made by Dodge. 

These neat little buggies have a bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower (in some years) stove, fridge, two bench seats in the back that fold down into a queen-size bed, and all the storage a minimalist needs. By mid-summer 2020 my heart was set on the Trekys.

After months of hunting nation-wide for the right price, the right year and something my mechanic brother-in-law saw fit for the road, I landed on a whip in Ohio.

With the all-over bed liner black and brown paint job, this ride looked like it was ready for fury road. She was the one.

After numerous conversations with the seller, Raynard Packard, founder of The Packard Institute, we felt confident in the history of the vehicle and the condition of the van.

In September, Eleanor and I got a rental car and drove straight through the night:

Friday: Boston -> Ohio

Saturday: Ohio -> Boston

26 hours of driving was crammed into a day and a half. I was impressed. To the horrified shock of my Mother and lovely car insurance lady, we made it back to Mass in my new (2002) camper van safely.

I had a lot to tackle over the fall and knew that patience was going to be huge during the home stretch before I could actually get on the road.
